Krups Coffee Grinder GVX2

Are you thinking about buying a Krups Coffee Grinder? Is the Krups Coffee Grinder GVX2 the right one for you? Are you upgrading with this model?

As you know, burr grinders produce a more consistent grind, so if you use a blade grinder at the moment then we recommend an upgrade. But is the Krups GVX2 the model for you?

Well, what can it do?

The Krups Coffee Grinder GVX2 has 17 grind settings ranging from fine to course, which should suit most brewing styles, possibly excluding Turkish. It also has a cup selector fitted which grinds enough coffee to make between 2-12 cups.

The beans are placed in the hopper on the top of the machine. Once you have selected your grind level and the number of cups, press the 'On' button located on the top front of the machine. The Krups Coffee Grinder GVX2 then goes to work and grinds based on your settings, automatically stopping when complete.

Sounds simple. Does it deliver? Well the answer is yes and no.

Some people have commented that this machine doesn't actual grind the right volumes based on the cup selection. I have not found this to be the case. The volumes have always been good as has the consistency and quality of the grind. There are no bulky or ultra fine grinds.

All good so far. Well, I have got one or two issues with this Coffee Grinder. Firstly, the anti-static hopper that catches the grinds. It isn't really that anti-static. The coffee grinds do tend to grab the sides. A little ritual of tapping the hopper will develop. And pouring the grinds into the grouphandle of a Espresso machine or the basket of a Moka Pot can also be a bit more time consuming than it should be, and possibly messy too.

The second issue I have is with the bean hopper. From time to I have noticed that the Krups GVX2 will start to free spin, even though there are still plenty of beans in the hopper. The flow of the beans gets stuck around the entrance of the grind mechanism. With a little tap or shake of the machine it starts grinding again.

You will find that other people have had other particular problems with messy hopper lids and such, but I don't seem to have experienced these types of problems. And if I have they are so minimal that I didn't notice. Having a little ground coffee on my fingers after taking a hopper lid off is not what I consider messy. A reasonable portion of my coffee grounds spilling onto the bench due to a not so anti-static hopper is messy. As I mention above, the grinds hopper could be a bit better.

In general terms, I have found the Krups Coffee Grinder GVX2 easy to use, delivering good quality ground coffee and in the volume (cup quantity) that I expected. It is also one of the cheaper burr grinders around, which means it is great value too.
