How to make a Mocha

Mocha

How to make a Mocha??? Mocha is a single Espresso, 30ml (1 oz.) of black coffee added into a chocolatey syrup based. And for this reason it is different to most other coffees, as the espresso shot is not the drink base.

Steps for making a Mocha using an Espresso machine:

Make the coffee
1. Get hold of some dark roasted espresso beans. Oily-looking is the choice bean here. Use the darkest of the espresso coffee beans. Traditional Italian Style! Looking for dark roasted or espresso beans?

2. You will want to grind these espresso beans until they are very fine.

3. Pack the grinds into the group (handle) of the espresso machine.

4. Place your cup/s under the group. Use demitasse cups if you have them (there is a good reason for this). Turned on your espresso machine. You should see a hazel brown crema appear at the surface of the coffee when its finished.

Mocha Java Milk preparation
5. Heat the milk using your steaming wand (do not foam). You can also heat the milk in a microwave or on a stove top.

Make your chocolate syrup
6. Mix 1 rounded tsp. of unsweetened cocoa powder and 1 rounded tsp of sugar in the bottom of a coffee mug.

7. Add a few tablespoons of hot milk and blend to make a thick smooth chocolate syrup.

Make your Mocha
8. Stir in the remainder of your milk and then add a shot of coffee.

9. Place a dollop of whipped cream on top and sprinkle with shaved chocolate or cinnamon.

Now all you have to do is enjoy your Mocha!!!

P.S. I delibrately do not add an ingredients listing at the top of these how-to's. I believe it is important that you read through the how-to and understand the steps involved and how they relate. Once you have that understanding you also then have your ingredients list. You are less likely to take any 'known to you' short cuts.

Following the process as written should provide you with a great quality drink that you can continue to enjoy making for many years to come.

And besides, there are not too many ingredients in these how-to's outside of coffee and milk.

Cheers,
Craig.
