Caffeine Limits Blood Flow To Heart Muscle During Exercise. In healthy volunteers, the equivalent of two cups of coffee reduced the body's ability to boost blood flow to the
heart muscle in response to exercise, and the effect was stronger when the participants were in a chamber simulating
high altitude, according to a new study in the Jan. 17, 2006, issue of the Journal of the American College of Cardiology.

A study of 503 non-fatal heart attack patients in Costa Rica found that coffee drinkers ran a higher risk of heart attack.
Little effect was noted among heavy coffee drinkers, defined as those who consume four or more cups per day.
Moderate coffee drinkers, those who drink two or three cups a day, ran a 60 percent higher risk of heart attack after
drinking a cup of coffee.
The greatest risk of heart attack was for light drinkers, defined as those who drink up to one cup a day. Their risk
increased by four times, during the hour after consumption, of just one cup.
In addition, coffee drinkers with three or more other heart disease risk factors, such as obesity and physical inactivity,
more than doubled their risk of heart attack after a cup of coffee.
Other Research: (Slow caffeine metabolism)
Individuals who have a genetic variation associated with slower caffeine metabolism appear to have an increased risk of non-fatal heart attack associated with higher amounts of coffee intake, according to a study in the March 8 issue of JAMA.
