Atomic Coffee Brewer
The Atomic Coffee Brewer Story
These days Atomic Brewer's can't be purchased new. Back in 1984, a fire ripped through the Robbiati factory in Italy,
thus bringing the demise of the Atomic Brewer. Or so everyone thought.
Today the Atomic Brewer features on auction sites at between US$300-US$1000, depending on the quality of the machine. While in production, new they would sell for the equivalent of $30-$40.
So why are these Atomic Brewers drawing such attention?
Well, some people say that the coffee produced by these machine is better than what your favourite barista will make for you. These machines produce 4-6 bar pressure and enough coffee for 4 cups. There is also enough pressure to froth milk for that perfect cappuccino!! But beware, the aluminium bases make them less suitable for electric stoves tops. Gas works best.
Atomic Brewers have had several makers over the years, spanning a model range of around 20. That said, each of these models never really strayed too far away from the true Atomic Brewer design. The later models (late 70's-earlier 80's) are generally accepted as the better quality models. Branding included names like Stella, Sassoon and the sought after Robbiati.
For those of you interested in purchasing a genuine Atomic Brewer, beware of fakes or reproductions. These fakes can be
identified by the steam arm being made of steel, not brass. And the baskets have random holes with course edging.
So, for those interested in exceptional coffee and very cool, retro-style kitchen gear, it might be time to go in search of
an Atomic Brewer.
