AeroPress Coffee Brewing
AeroPress coffee brewing is one of the newest types of coffee brewing, developed in 2005.
Despite claims of being similar to espresso, it is possibly better described as a great strong coffee. Part of the espresso
experience includes the flavour of the oils from your chosen coffee bean. This is mostly removed by the Aeropress
brewing method.
Just a plastic version of the French Press I hear you say. Well, not exactly. The Aeropress has a short brewing
time (approx. 30sec.) and with its tight filtration provides a sediment free coffee. This is helped by the disposable
paper based filter, which also removes many of the oils from your brew (some people prefer this others don't). It also uses
an espresso fine grind or a courser grind (suited to the French Press), depending on the volume of ground coffee being used.
So how does Aerporess Coffee Brewing work? Here is a brief explanation for preparing an Aeropress coffee:
- add a paper filter into the bottom of the Aeropress cup
- place ground coffee into the Aeropress cup
- place the Aeropress cup over your coffee cup (if you haven't already)
- pour in your hot water (165°-175°F or 75°-80°C)
- stir for about 10sec to allow the water and coffee to mix
- wet the rubber seal of the plunger to help create the air seal
- depress the plunger, this moves the brew into your coffee cup
- in total this whole process takes about 30sec.
- a cleaning is a snap!! Just remove the spent coffee and rinse your Aeropress.
Now all you have to do is enjoy a great coffee!!!
